Meet the candidate

Amy Carney

Current SUSD Governing Board Member — running for re-election

A mom of six and current Governing Board member focused on academic excellence, responsible spending, and meaningful partnerships with parents and teachers.

Why Carney?

As a mom of six, all educated in SUSD, and a Governing Board member with four years of proven leadership, I am committed to the students, families, and staff of our district. You can count on me to keep doing the work, asking the tough questions, and making thoughtful decisions that put students first and strengthen SUSD.

Her story

Amy Carney is a mother of six and current member of the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board. With all six of her children educated in SUSD schools, Amy’s commitment to the district is deeply personal.

During her four years on the Governing Board, Amy has been a consistent voice for academic excellence, responsible spending, strong neighborhood schools, less screen time, school safety, and meaningful partnerships with parents and teachers. She believes every board decision should begin with a simple question: What is best for students?

Amy is known for doing her homework, asking tough questions, and standing up for parents, teachers, staff, and students. She believes taxpayer dollars should be spent wisely, classrooms should remain focused on learning, and those closest to students should have a meaningful voice in decisions that affect their schools.

An author, entrepreneur, and longtime advocate for strong families, Amy has spent years listening to and learning from the SUSD community. Those relationships, along with her experience as a mother and board member, continue to shape how she serves.

Amy is seeking reelection to bring experienced, proven leadership to SUSD and continue putting students first while strengthening the schools our community values.

What she'll fight for

Keep Schools Open

Seek solutions before closures

Neighborhood schools matter. We will pursue every reasonable solution to keep campuses open, safe, strong, and serving students. Closure should be a last resort.

Put Students First

Prioritize academic excellence

Every board decision should begin with one question: What is best for students? We will keep academic excellence at the center of SUSD's priorities and ensure students have the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to succeed.

Less Screen Time

More hands-on, teacher-led learning.

Technology should support learning, not replace it. We will prioritize teachers, books, writing, discussion, and hands-on experiences to create better balance and more purposeful learning for every student.

Support Parents & Teachers

Listen, collaborate, and empower our community.

Strong schools are built through partnership. We will remain accessible, listen to parents and teachers, value their experience and ideas, and give them a meaningful seat at the table before decisions are made.

Spend Wisely

Put taxpayer dollars into the classrooms we have.

Every dollar matters. We will prioritize students, teachers, and classrooms while scrutinizing administrative costs and spending that does not directly support student success.
